Synopsis

We have recently seen a significant increase in dental problems in pediatric dentistry related to tooth hypoplasia, excessive sugar intake, and oral dysfunction etc. Polarization of dental problems in children has been rising, with cases divided largely into carious and non-carious defects. Patients with higher caries incidence are found not only to have problems in the home environment, but also present with dental hypoplasia. In particular, the management of dental dysplasia (MIH/HSPM), requires not only a dental approach, but a more holistic approach involving various measures that include the improvement of the home environment as well as the patient’s lifestyle.

Development of bioactive materials containing S-PRG fillers are particularly beneficial in pediatric dentistry, as we have investigated ways in incorporating them into preventive and restorative materials to not only treat but also prevent rapidly increasing dental caries amongst the pediatric patient population. S-PRG is an innovative filler that is known to release various ions, effective in strengthening the tooth structure while improving the oral environment.

This pre-congress session comprises of 2 sections. In the first half, Prof. Fukumoto will introduce not only caries treatment using bioactive materials containing S-PRG filler for pediatric dentistry, but also more advanced caries prevention options.

In the second half, Dr. Aya Yamada will conduct a hands-on workshop involving the application of bioactive materials, step-by-step use with tips and tricks for effective clinical use.

Synopsis

Indirect composites are touted as predictable restorative materials for a wide arrange of restorations such veneers, inlays, onlays, crowns & bridges as well as implant supported restorations. A comprehensive spectrum of tooth shades as well as gingival colours are formulated to create bespoke restorations. A simple, predictable fabrication protocol enables same day delivery in case of single unit, fixed prosthesis. Indirect composites add unique value as implant friendly, flexible, repairable and shock-absorbing materials that can be used on their own for implant supported prosthesis or in combination with more rigid oxide ceramics. Dr. Kimberly Ray R. Fajardo or simply “Dr. Kim”, is a graduate of the University of the East College of Dentistry back in 2009 and was a former instructor of Prosthodontics, Undergraduate Research and Practice Management at the same University. Dr. Kim was a visiting scholar for Implant Dentistry and Prosthodontics at the Seoul National University – Bundang Hospital in 2013. He also attended various postgraduate training courses in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Dentistry from the prestigious New York University – Linhart Continuing Dental Education Program and the University of Southern California – Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry. Synopsis:

Implant supported removable dental prostheses can be customized to harmonize the red-white aesthetic balance and restore the patient’s natural smile. The standard dentures that often look too pale and plastic-like, can be easily accented with the aid of stains and gum-shaded lab composites. Shades of the denture can be adjusted with variations of gum colour and fine details replicated through the use of effect gum colours and stains to enhance the final aesthetic outcome.

The workshop will provide the foundation to understanding the clinical significance of lab composites with a guided protocol on the use of gum shaded composites to individualize removable (denture) prosthesis. Participants will learn how to select the correct gum shades, blend and layer them to mimic gum topography. Tips and tricks on staining procedures and the use of effect shades to simulate the patient’s natural gum will also be shared, thus helping the dental practice/lab to differentiate the gum restorations that they provide.

Dr. Evan Manandhar is a dedicated dental surgeon with more than 15 years of clinical experience and a special interest in the field of aesthetic dentistry.

After completing a Bachelors in Dental Surgery from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Karnataka, India, he gained experience at the  multi-specialty National Dental Hospital in his native Kathmandu. Dr. Manandhar established his private practice “Dental Inn” in his hometown with an aim to provide holistic, patient-centred dental care. He furthered his education with a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Eastern Finland in 2014, which opened up the opportunity to understand healthcare needs beyond dentistry. Overview:

Lithium disilicate is considered to be one of the most aesthetic materials for smile makeovers. Needle-like (acicular) densely packed crystals  impart optimal strength and durability to the lithium disilicate crown, inlays, onlays.

Fabricated either as a fully contoured prosthesis individualized with stains or through veneering of the lithium disilicate frame with low fusing ceramic material, lithium disilicate restorations enable you to achieve and often exceed the aesthetic expectations of the patient.
