Synopsis

The interactive hands-on workshop is designed for dentists and technicians seeking to enhance their skills in achieving superior aesthetic results when staining zirconia and lithium disilicate restorations. While the two materials have different characteristics, it is still possible do gain comparable and harmonious aesthetic results. Attendees will gain in-depth knowledge of the differences between these materials and explore effective techniques to achieve natural-looking, vibrant restorations that mimic the translucency and colour variations found in natural teeth.

Learning Objectives

1. Understand the Material Properties: Gain insight into the unique characteristics of zirconia and lithium disilicate, including how their different compositions affect the staining process.
2. Staining Techniques: Learn various staining methods for both zirconia and lithium disilicate, including the use of liquid and powder stains, as well as firing cycles that influence colour saturation and translucency.
3. Colour Theory Application: Master the fundamentals of colour theory in dental aesthetics, including how to blend shades, create depth, and match natural tooth structure.
4. Customization: Explore micro-layering techniques to create nuanced colours and textures, simulating the appearance of natural enamel and dentin.
5. Troubleshooting: Address common challenges and mistakes in the staining process, and develop strategies to avoid or correct them, ensuring predictable and successful results.

Speaker Profile

Dr. Kelvin Tantono graduated from Trisakti university in 2012 and gained clinical experience in Jakarta and Binjai followed by his own private practice in Medan. After more than 5 years of clinical practice, he decided to follow his heart and pursue the field of dental ceramics and has not looked back since. A passionate dental ceramist, Kelvin has trained on various aspects of dental technology from leading experts – the art of ceramics from Master Mitsutaka Fukushima, morphology & occlusion from Szabi Hant & Stefano Cossar, Smile design & ceramics with Dr. Marcelo Calamita and his technician, Edson Da Silva. He has also completed the international program at the Osaka School of Dental Ceramics Training School in September 2018. Dr. Tantono is a passionate ceramist whose dental degree enables him to understand the needs and challenges of both the dental surgeon and the dental technician and bridge the communication gap. Dr. Kelvin conducts lectures and workshop on dental ceramics in Indonesia and internationally. He is also the Key Opinion leader for Shofu. He believes in sharing knowledge and experiences amongst peers, as this will empower both the dentist and the technician to overcome challenges, obtain predictable outcomes and enhance the quality of dental restorations rendered.
